Owner Comments:

Very nice frosted devices with deep mirror fields on this 1878-CC Vam11 "Lines in Eagles Wing." This Morgan could go DMPL on another day of grading with PCGS. The mirrors on this coin are outstanding with excellent clarity. All 1878-CC'S have the B reverse with flat breast eagle and parallel arrow feathers. Vam's 11 and 14 have heavy die polishing lines in the eagle's wing and bring a premium for this coin, especially in PL and DMPL condition. Proof-like surfaces are available although not as high a proportion as for later mintage years of 1879-1885-CC'S. The dies were used longer for the 1878-CC to achieve the higher mintage thus resulting in a lower percentage of early strike proof-like specimens. Extremely deep mirror white cameos are available but quite scarce. Check out my 1878-CC MS65 DPL in the PL and DPL section of the registry ( The looking glass collection). It is one of the finest known graded and displays a nice cameo frost against the deep mirror fields. This Vam 11 reverse B2b has die polishing marks strongly evident as heavy lines at the bottom of the eagle's right wing and in the middle left wing. CC mint mark at medium height and tilted slighty to right. A very cool coin indeed.
