Gem Canada George VI circulation silver dollar minted to celebrate the Accession of Newfoundland to Canada. Above average strike with dusty luster. Light contact marks and scratches are present commensurate with grade. Acquired: 2021 on Stacks & Bowers.
Composition: 80% silver. Weight: 23.3276 grams. Diameter: 36.06 mm. Thickness: 2.84 mm. Edge: Milled. Mintage: 672,218. Obverse: The portrait in left profile of George VI is surrounded with the inscription "GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX" (George VI, King by the grace of God) Reverse: The Matthew, the ship historians believe John Cabot was sailing when he discovered Newfoundland, below which reads the Latin inscription "FLOREAT TERRA NOVA" (may the New Found Land flourish), is surrounded with the face value and the inscription "CANADA".
