Owner Comments:

Mintage 69,200 coins. This figure was a little above average for San Francisco mint production in it's early years. It was not until 1878 that San Francisco mint output exceeded 100,000 pieces in any single year. The 1857-S coins saw heavy use in commerce and well worn coins are the norm. Only a handful of mint state coins survive in the lower mint state grades.
