NGC US Coin Census for Anthony Dollars (1979-1999)

Owner Comments:

Suffragette Susan B. Anthony became the first woman to appear on a coin meant for circulation in the US. In 1979, the mint released the first small dollar (smaller than a half dollar, but larger than a quarter) that was intended to revolutionize how Americans spent money. Vending machines were supposed to be adapted to use the new coin as it was hoping to wean the population off the paper $1 note. It did not, and only lasted 2 years. They were also issued in 1981 mint sets, and then revived once more in 1999 to prime the public for the new Sacagawea Golden dollar coin (which had a similar fate in circulation).

This nice example is one of only 81 graded MS68 by NGC, with only a single coin higher in MS69.
