Owner Comments:

Charles III was the fifth son of Philip V, assuming the throne on the death of his half-brother Ferdinand VI. His political and economic reforms slowed the decay of the Spanish Empire for a period, encouraging colonial commerce which caused more silver to be mined and minted, like this nice example.

This is one of the scarce date/assayer combinations in the 1760-1771 Mexico City 8 reales series. Gilboy M-8-43a with rounded 6, R2 (25-50 pieces known). From a Heritage Weekly World auction in October of 2020.
