NGC graded MS 66 RB
Variety: N-14, Head of 1836, EDS
This piece has great luster and surfaces. There is perhaps 25% original color on the obverse and more than 75% on the reverse. The stars and hair bun are weakly struck, as is typical for the variety. This is a very pleasing coin, surely in the condition census for the variety. Among 1835 cents, it has the single highest NGC/PCGS certified grade.
I bought this from Jim McGuigan (on consignment for one of his clients), once I had the money, about a month after seeing it in his display at the August 2005 Baltimore show. It "spoke" to me at the show, and at the time I still had the discipline not to spend beyond my numismatic allowance. Fortunately, I was able to gather the necessary funds before it was sold to someone else.
