Owner Comments:
The gold commemorative released in 2012 was the Star Spangled Banner $5 Gold coin and it was issued to mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812. The obverse image depicts a naval battle between a U.S. ship and a damaged and retreating British ship. The reverse of the coin features a banner of 15-stripes and 15-stars with the first five words ("O say can you see") of the national anthem.
There were a mere 7,006 uncirculated and 18,299 proof coins produced by the West Point Mint. The MS70 (over 640) and PF70 graded coins (over 430) are fairly difficult to find, although there are multiple times as many MS70 and PF70 coins versus MS69 and PF70 coins. This just may be another sleeper key coin with such low mintage numbers.
