Gold started the year at $1,420.25/oz. and ended at $1,531/oz. The coin has clean, bright fields.
No commemorative gold coins were produced in 2009 and 2010. In 2011 the mint produced two military-themed coins. The first honored the 150th anniversary of the Medal of Honor, created as the highest medal Congress could confer on those who fought with extraordinary valor against an enemy force. The obverse of the coin features an image of the medal itself. The reverse is a (rather confusing) image of Minerva (the Roman goddess of wisdom, war, art, schools, and commerce) holding a shield and a U.S. flag, with cannons and munitions in the background.
There were 8,251 uncirculated coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint and 18,102 proof coins produced by the West Point Mint. The MS70 (around 450) and PF70 graded coins (around 360) are fairly difficult to find.
