Owner Comments:
This variety is surprisingly difficult to find, especially since the mint claims to have produced over 5000 for placement as a price in Cheerios cereal boxes. Most likely, those lucky enough to find one in their Cheerios just spent them. It was not until years after the promotion when it was discovered that these coins were produced using a prototype reverse die pattern, accentuating the feathers of the eagle.
I first found an uncertified coin on Ebay, and I think that the seller was quite surprised to have gotten a couple thousand for their coin. That coin was graded MS68 by NGC. I sold it for a handsome profit, then set out to find another one. Not such an easy task! I finally found this example which crossed from PCGS to NGC, retaining it's MS68 grade.
