Circulation Strike Mintage 246,000

The very low mintage of this year/mintmark made this coin one of my goals to acquire. Looking at quite a few examples showed me that overall they are fairly well struck and have good luster (in Mint State).

The entire design and surfaces on the obverse and reverse show considerable signs of wear, with the obverse showing significantly more wear in key area of interest (high points of the design elements such as Liberty's body). Most of the original mint luster has been worn away except for very recessed areas on the obverse and reverse. The entire design (in general) is bold and clear.

On the obverse, the high parts of the design have lost their sharpness (becoming more rounded at Liberty's head at approximately 60% of details). Contact marks in the fields are numerous. The lettering on the coin is clearly visible including the word "LIBERTY". The date is visible but partially worn down as are Liberty's center body and gown stripes. The left leg is almost flat.

The reverse has more significantly worn areas at the high points of the design (i.e. Eagle's breast) which has a flattened appearance. The protective rim on the reverse is somewhat worn down on the left aspect, wearing down some of the details on the left surface to the point of leaving some of the minor details blending together and some details partially merging with the coin's surface.
