Numismatic News: The 2013-W Burnished American Silver Eagle went on sale on May 28 at a price of $48.95 each. Later in the year the price dropped to $43.95.

All Burnished examples were struck at the West Point Mint. When referring to "Burnished" coins (called Uncirculated by the US Mint), the distinguishing factor is that the planchets are specially burnished and hand fed into the coining press one at a time. Although a later article in Coin World, published in 2015 states otherwise, in examining these coins, I agree with the view that these burnished coins lack the deep mirrored fields and cameo appearance of the devices of "unburnished" examples -- instead having a uniform satiny or matte finish. This coin has more of a matte finish that doesn't reflect light as well as the satiny version.

Aside from the matte finish that can be par for the course, I see nothing that detracts from the beauty of this MS-70 coin. It's a gorgeous specimen on the obverse and reverse with sharp detail on all the prime focal spots. With a excellent sharp strike, lustrous and finely textured fields, as well as no spots, hairlines, hits, scuff marks or other defects, it is a gorgeous example of an American Silver Eagle in MS-70 condition.
