Owner Comments:
Three $5 gold commemorative coins were released in 1996, and two of them were issued for the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The first Olympic coin featured a flag bearer leading the U.S. team into the stadium. The reverse features an Olympic flame design that is the logo for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.
There were only 9,174 uncirculated and 32,886 proof coins minted by the West Point Mint. The gold coins issued for the Atlanta Olympics are among the lowest of all minted commemoratives. These coins are moderately difficult to find in perfect MS70 condition (a little more than 410 graded in MS70, about 85 more than those in MS69 condition) and in PF70 condition (less than 400 graded in PF70, more than 400 fewer than those graded in PF69 condition).
