Owner Comments:
The first commemorative dollar released in 2018 was the World War I Centennial silver dollar, issued to honor the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. The obverse of the coin features an upper torso image of a soldier charging through a barbed wire obstacle. The reverse of the coin features a grouping of poppies (a symbol of remembrance) intermingled with a trampled length of barbed wire.
The uncirculated and proof coins were produced by the Philadelphia Mint. Proof coins were also paired in sets with medals for five different military service groups involved in the war: the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air Service.
