Owner Comments:
An absolutely Blast White solidly graded MS66 example of this tough Denver date. Most 23-D Peace Dollars were fairly well struck but display a dull appearance and almost all have excessive bag marks. If you look at the Auction Archives of MS-66 23-D Peace Dollars, most of them have ugly dark rub and contact marks where this specimen is virtually mark free. A truly outstanding example, probably deserving of a + Grade. With a mintage of 6.811 million coins, examples can be obtained with relative ease through the near-Gem level of preservation. PCGS/NGC population data show around 100 Coins have graded MS-66 with only three finer. NGC has graded three examples finer than MS-66, one at 66* and two at 66+. The Blast White surfaces of this MS66 coin are atypical for this date and mint, and display outstanding original mint luster. This coin has obviously been well preserved and cared for. A extremely Strong strike yields outstanding definition on all the design elements. This coin has never been auctioned, and has only changed hands through personal collectors. This Coin was Pedigreed to the Pamela Henard Peace Dollar Collection in 2018.
Mark Salzberg, NGC Chairman and Grading Finalizer:
Again, we’re talking about the best of the best. It has beautiful luster and is perfectly white. It pretty much typifies the whole collection.
