1987 was the second year of production for proof Silver Eagles. Clearly the sophomore effort of the U.S. Mint was not as popular, and sales dropped by over half a million coins from year one to two. Quality also dropped from year one to two, and only about 2.5% of the 1987 proof Silver Eagles that NGC has graded were awarded the grade PF70UC. This number is equal to about half the percentage of the year before. (9/2015)
