Owner Comments:

No commemorative half dollars were minted for the four year period from 2004 through 2007. In 2008, a commemorative half dollar was issued to honor the American Bald Eagle. It was the 17th half dollar minted in the "Modern Commemorative" era. The obverse of the 2008-S half dollar features an image of two baby eaglets and an unhatched egg. The reverse features the profile of the eagle "Challenger"(a non-releasable bald eagle that was hand raised by humans after being blown out of its nest as an eaglet) and the American flag.

There were 222,577 proof coins produced. These half dollars are made from 92% copper and 8% nickel. The 2008-S half is quite common in perfect PF70 graded condition.
