Owner Comments:
With a mintage of 1790 pieces and the survival of probably less than 100 pieces, this is truly a rare coin. NGC and PCGS combined have only certified 88 coins which probably includes a few duplicate submissions. From 1858 to 1877 the Philadelphia mint produced very limited quantities of Eagles. The half eagle was the preferred denomination for normal transactions and the Double Eagle was used for interbank transfers and international transactions.
