Owner Comments:
The second commemorative dollar of 2004 was the Lewis and Clark Silver Dollar, issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the expedition undertaken to explore the land acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. The obverse of the coin shows Army Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark preparing for exploration. The reverse features an image of the peace medal that the two explorers presented to Native American tribes that they encountered during their travels (same medal that appears on the 2004 "Peace Medal" nickel).
There were 142,015 uncirculated and 351,989 proof coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint. The MS70 graded dollars are plentiful and easy to find. The PF70 graded dollar is in fairly good supply as well.
