Owner Comments:

The 1892-CC entered the world of numismatics with a sizeable (by Carson City Mint standards) mintage of 1.3 million coins. Unlike many earlier CC-mint issues in this series, significant quantities of '92-CC dollars were released into circulation at the time of issue. Those that were retained at the Carson City Mint were relocated after the facility was closed. These coins were transported overland to the San Francisco Mint, many examples probably acquiring numerous abrasions in the process. A few bags were also shipped to the Treasury Building in Washington, D.C., with the same detrimental effects to the coins' surface preservation. This issue was not well represented in the Treasury releases of 1962-1964, but limited quantities had found their way into dealers' hands in the 1940s and 1950s.

Today, the 1892-CC is among the scarcer CC-mint issues in this series. Marginal Uncirculated examples are plentiful enough, but high quality representatives are seldom offered, even in the largest auction
