1888-O VAM-1A Clashed E. The New Orleans mint had some issues in 1888 but their errors created some great VAMs. Two of arguably best Morgan varieties emerged from that branch mint on that year: VAM-1B Scarface and the VAM-4 Hotlips. The VAM-1B Scarface die break is probably the result of a die clash, just like this coin. The dies clashed on this VAM-1A and transferred the remains of an "E" from Liberty's headband underneath the Eagle's tailfeathers. In addition to the clashed E, a die break occurred on the obverse and grows over time creating a great variety. Had the spectacular Scarface not happened, this could have been considered one of the best Morgan breaks.
