Owner Comments:

Unlike the preceding few years, the mintage of silver dollars in San Francisco during the 12 months of 1897 was substantial, and at the end of the year that facility had coined nearly 6 million pieces. Dave Bowers writes in A Guidebook of Morgan Silver Dollars: "Here we are, back to a really top-notch dollar in terms of availability, strike, luster, and all else good. The 1897-S is usually all of these, and adding one to your collection can be done on just about any budget. The entire situation of 1897-S is reminiscent of the memorable-quality, but inexpensive, S Mint coins of the early years of the series."
