Owner Comments:

According to Q. David Bowers, the Federal government stopped paying out silver dollars in March 1964, although more than a million pieces remained in Treasury holdings. These were inventoried, and it turned out that many of these were Uncirculated 1883-CC examples. Those pieces were eventually dispersed in a series of GSA auctions, held between October 1972 and February 1980. Today, if a GSA dollar is sighted on the bourse floor, the chances are it will be a Carson City issue struck between 1882 and 1884.
