1869 Philadelphia
Mintage: 256,600
Obverse Dies: 6 Known
Two different date punches were used for the 1869 Philadelphia dies resulting in Short and Long Flag 1 date varieties. The Short Flag 1 varieties are difficult to locate in higher grades and are extremely challenging to find with a full head.
The 1869 date is difficult to locate in the lower circulated grades and scarcer than its mintage would imply. This date is very scarce in EF-AU and becomes extremely scarce in Mint State. Mint State examples still remain undervalued at current pricing levels.
Plate Coin: Fortin 105a, Long Flag 1, Prooflike Fields, Essentially Untoned
