O.119 Finest Known. Per cataloger, "This is one of the Guide Book varieties for 1828, which broadly break down into Curl Base 2, With or Without Knob on 2; Square Base 2, Small or Large 8's, with the Small 8's subdividing into the Small Letters and Large Letters types. But the O-119 is the only die pairing in the Square Base 2, Small 8's, Small Reverse Letters class. The A in STATES is recut prominently (ST less so), the letters in the legend are small (hence the name), and the A's in AMERICA are filled. This thickly toned Premium Gem displays a totally original appearance over unperturbed surfaces, accented with blue-gray tones overall that deepen slightly around the rims. This piece is finer than any listed in the Stephen Herrman Condition Census as of autumn 2012 (a sole MS65 is finest there). A marvelous example of this scarce variety. From The William Jacob Collection, Part II." Heritage Platinum Night Auction #1184 on 4/26/2013, Lot 4267.
