In this set of original release coins, the "Total Graded by NGC" census totals include only original release coins; it does not include Bank of Canada Hoard coins that NGC counts as a separate variety.
In NGC's "Counterfeit Detection" resource page, NGC lists the Canada 1913 $5 gold as #17 on its list of the "Top 25 Most Commonly Counterfeited World Coins." NGC gives this diagnostic tip: "The majority of the fakes...seem to be from one counterfeiter .… [and the fake] has a large depression by the '3' in the date and also has repeating depressions in the crown."
