VAM-14 NGC MS63 PL (DOUBLED 879)Well struck, nice luster, some frost, orange rims on both sides. On many other dates, this would merit the grade MS 64 DPL, bearing only a couple of trivial, nondistracting obverse scuffs and a couple notable ones on the cheek. However, since this issue tends to be relatively attractive, this is nominally graded MS 63 PL. Still, it is PQ and could easily earn either MS 64 or DPL upon regrade.I have had many opportunities to upgrade this date over the years. However, like many real collectors, I simply like the presentation of this coin. The technical grade is one thing. But the bold-struck cameo look with nice original toning framing it at the rims is difficult to dismiss.An interesting extra feature of this coin are gouges out of the eagle's beak, a pick up point for the variety that is not listed.
