The Grand Canyon, located in northern Arizona, was first established as a Forest Reserve in 1893. In 1906 it was designated a game preserve and in 1908, a National Monument. Finally in 1919, Grand Canyon became the United States' 15th National Park.
The Grand Canyon National Park quarter is the fourth of 2010 and the fourth overall in the program. The quarter features the granaries above the Nankoweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River. They were used for storing food and seeds between 1050 and 1150 A.D.
