Owner Comments:
Purchased in an eBay Auction on 5/1/2011.
Coin has a total mintage of 39,600,000 and was designed by engraver Charles Vickers. The release date was July 27, 2009. This is a true rarity and of indescribable perfection, with a population of 3 / 0.
The design is sharp, clean, no marks, and the closest to perfection I have seen for a business strike coin. The design features an ava bowl, a fue whisk and to'oto'o staff (symbols of traditional authority). The right of the coin depicts a view of the coastline showing a coconut tree. Inscribed on the coin is the motto of American Samoa, "Samoa Muamua Le Atua", which translates as "Samoa, God is First" in the Samoan language.
There are a total of 5 BUSINESS STRIKE quarters graded by NGC as MS69 for the year 2009 (none graded by PCGS). There are 3 of these 2009-D American Samoa quarters. The only other two business strikes for this year are one 2009-P and one 2009-D Northern Marianas Islands graded MS69 by NGC. The Northern Marianas MS69 quarters are both in the top rated DC/Territories set.
