Owner Comments:

1859 H10C PR64 NGC. The influence of Mint Designer and Engraver Anthony C. Paquet is visible in the design of this interesting type coin. Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins discusses at length Paquet's modified design of 1859-60, but it curiously fails to mention one of this coin's most distinct features: the redesigned LIBERTY on the obverse shield, in tall, angular letters that resemble nothing so much as Egyptian cuneiform. This appealing example is deeply toned in steel-blue and russet on the obverse, with green, aqua, and hazel on the reverse. The 18 in the date is recut. A scrape from Liberty's elbow through star five reveals itself under magnification, along with a couple of minor ticks. The reverse die is rotated about 30 degrees counterclockwise.
