Owner Comments:

1835 1/2 C C-1, B-1, R.1. Die State 2. MS63 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. Tall, recut 5; High leaf left of center below S. This is a later die state with heavy clash marks in both the obverse and the reverse fields. Walter Breen and Roger Cohen both believed that this variety came first in the emission sequence, but Ron Manley isn't buying it. He agrees with an argument made by collector Milton Pfeffer in Penny-Wise, May 1977 that this was the second 1835 variety struck. Intermingled deep olive and steel on the obverse, the reverse lighter olive with healthy splashes of darker steel color.Ex: Wayte Raymond (2/1947), lot 70; Harold Bareford; William Bareford (5/25/1984).
