Owner Comments:
The Philadelphia Mint only produced about 12.5 million Roosevelt dimes dated 1955 and this date is generally considered a semi-key date in the series. PCGS estimates that only 75,000 1955-P Roosevelt survive in MS 65 condition or better.
The 1955-P here has a dark mostly orange/russet-colored tone on both sides and a bright electric blue color on the reverse. The observe toning isn't the nicest, but the blue color on the reverse gives this coin above average eye-appeal in general.
It has a good strike and fine details on both sides. Most of the vertical and upper band lines are clear and defined. However the lower band line is not present at all. Very light contact marks are present on both sides, but consistent with an MS 67 grade.
Overall the blue coloring on this dime is very cool. And this coin is a cool addition to the collection. However, I would not object to replacing this coin in the future with one that looks nice on both sides.
The photos are by Eric Hazen. Eric kindly photograph of a few very toned Roosevelt dimes in the collection. And he did an incredible job. Thanks Eric.
