Owner Comments:
The 1936S Cincinnati is the rarest and hardest date to acquire in this three coin series. With an original mintage of 5,006 the S mint is equal in distribution to its Denver & Philadelphia kin. The population / census numbers make the 36S appear common in MS 65. However this is not the case. For example, try buying a nice 36S in MS65 tomorrow- you are probably going to be looking for quite awhile. This in fact that the combined pop is over 400 in 65 grade. (How many resubmissions and lost or never returned grading inserts are included in this count?)
In MS 66 the 36S is very rare- just over 50 in PCGS & 18 in NGC holders. This coin is rarely found in dealer inventory or offered at auction. It is a tough find- especially with eye appeal.
This coin is a very eye appealing, clean and lustrous coin. It has splashes of russet toning on the peripheries of both coin sides. It possess a nice flashy look. The portrait of Stephen Foster is A+ clean along with the Goddess of the tunes playing the lyre on the reverse. A desirable & rare coin with just a handful better.
Population: PCGS: 52 in MS66 (includes 1 in+), 1 higher in 67. NGC: 18 in 66 (with 1*), 4 higher in 67 (with 1*). CAC 6 in 66. (10-12)
Update: Population: PCGS: 57 in 66, 3 in 67. NGC: 16 in 66, 3 in 67. CAC: 7 in 66, 1 in 67. (10/13)
