John and Abigail Adams become the first occupants of the White House. "I pray Heaven to bestow the best Blessings on this House and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise men ever rule beneath this roof." John Adams, from his journal entry dated Nov. 2, 1800, his second night in the White House.
