The park was established as Mount McKinley National Park in 1917. Mount McKinley NP and Denali National Monument were combined in 1980 into the Denali National Park and Preserve.
The Denali National Park and Preserve quarter is the fifth of 2012 and the 15th overall in the ATB program. The coin features a Dall sheep with the 20,320 foot Mount McKinley looming in the background. It’s the highest point in North America. McKinley is known as Denali by the native population. “Denali” means, “the high one” in the native language. Absolutely beautiful coin!
