Owner Comments:

James K Polk won the election by promising to finish the work that Andrew Jackson had started. Serving from 1845 through 1849, Polk had always said he would serve only one term. Being an expansionist, Polk worked to gain as much land for the United States as he could. He pressured England to define the border in the Oregon Territory, and went to war with Mexico to gain Texas and the Southwest. While not remembered by many Americans, Polk is considered one of the best presidents ever to serve. Under his leadership, the United States became a country that spanned from Sea to Shining Sea.
