1902-O NGC MS65 DPL VAM-21 (Triple Profile Obv / Two Olive Rev)
Only one coin graded finer by NGC, none above this grade at PCGS.
This coin has the appearance of a slightly soft strike and undifferentiated luster. These are overwhelmingly characteristic for the grade and perhaps why it was formerly graded as a slider. But this is a solid gem, consistent with others of the date. The VAM-21 variety is a fascinating one among the many for the date. But according to the VAM, it is not particularly rare as such. However, it is noteworthy that the Hoffnagle MS65DMPL (#162881-014) also appears to be a VAM-21. These are DMPLs from fresh dies, not repolished ones.
ex The Naylor Collection.
