George Washington the father of our nation and my favorite president of all! George Washington was the commander and chief of the Continental Army who defeated the British gaining our nation's independence. Washington was very reluctant to accept public office, but was persuaded to be our first president. Throughout the nation and abroad, Washington was regarded with near God-like reverance. At his death, Washing was hailed as, "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen."
