The Puerto Rico Quarter was released on March 30, 2009. It was the second release of the 2009 DC & US Territories Quarter Program. The coin depicts a sentry box in Old San Juan overlooking the sea, looking back to the time when time when it was an important military region. The flower to the right of the sentry box is a Hibiscus. Inscribed on the coin is “Isla del Encanto”, which means, “Island of Enchantment”.
