Toning is a natural process and the surface of the coin's reaction to its environment. It also still usually means means that, if undisturbed, the coin's original skin has remained intact--it hasn't been dipped or otherwise tampered with. Thus, the beauty of those surfaces is in the variety of colors that have developed over time. The 46S coin is one of those Walkers that seems to NT tone the very best.
