1890 PROOF 69* CAMEO QUARTER NGC 3210952-004
A splendidly preserved cameo proof, it is the single highest graded 1890 by either grading service. Business strike Seated Quarter production ratcheted up slightly in 1890 to a total of 80,000 pieces. The Mint's output of proofs, however, amounted to only 590 pieces--the lowest yearly total since 1877. All specimen strikings of the 1890 Quarter were achieved with a single pair of dies. The present survivor is one of the few 19th C. Proof 69's graded. It is a bright, sharply contrasted representative of what was intended when first struck.
