Owner Comments:
Obviously a rare issue, the 1858-S Gold Dollar circulated extensively despite a limited mintage of just 10,000 pieces. Few examples appear at auction in any given year, and most of those coins grade no higher than Choice AU. This is the first Mint State survivor that this cataloger can remember handling in several years. Both sides are richly colored in blended reddish-gold and khaki-gold shades that provide a picture of numismatic originality. A few wispy abrasions and slight muting to the surfaces explain the MS-61 grade, but the eye appeal is quite strong for a BU gold coin of any denomination. Housed in an older PCGS holder with a green insert.
