The 1855-O is a one-year type coin, as it is the only issue from this mint that employs the Indian Head, or Type II, design that was used on Gold Eagles from 1854 to 1856. As such, is the most popular New Orleans Gold Dollar.
The 1855 date logo types are quite attractive due to the double "5"s that are slanted, unlike any other year. I do not know what compelled the mint to treat this year's date differently, but it makes the coins' date logo quite interesting and beautiful.
This coin has bold, frosty luster, very nice for the grade, with a greenish gold color. The obverse is quite undistirbed. The "8" in the date (on the reverse) is not fully defined, typical for this issue. The "LL" in Dollar is also a bit weak.
