At the end of the 20th century, a proposal of re-designing a new dollar coin re-surfaced, and a new dollor coin featuring Sacagawea, the Native American woman who contributed to the Lewis and Clark expediture was choosen. Glenna Goodacre designed the observe showing a three-quarter profile of Sacagawea with her infant son, Jean Baptiste, at her back. The reverse features a soaring eagle encircled by 17 stars - one for each state in 1804. This first Sacagawea Dollar was minted in 2000. Representing this coin in my 21 Century Proof Type Set is the 2005-S Proof Dollar. This coin was acquired in Oct 2007 in PF69 UC graded by NGC. The scratch shown in the image of the reverse is on the holder.
