My wife and I were at the Long Beach Show several years ago and had our eye on a '21 Peace Dollar in the Heritage auction. My wife wanted to do the bidding so I gave her the bidder card and waited for "our" coin to come up. I instructed her on the maximum bid I was willing to pay and soon after, bidding opened for the coin. Bidding was fast paced and my wife became confused. Before I could stop her from "waving" the card frantically at the auctioneer, the coin was bid to over $500 more than my top price. Thank goodness a previous internet bidder won and I ended up with this nicer coin from a dealer/friend on the bourse. Looking at this coin always reminds me of that "close call" and I chuckle.
