Owner Comments:

According to Charlton Standard Catalog of Canadian Coins, the Canadian 20 cent coin was a bridge between an old a new world monetary system. While the English used the pound, shilling, pence Canada was based upon the dollar system. Much like our own 20 cent coin the coin proved problematic with confusion with quarters. After a single year's mintage production stopped and and by 1860 it was decided to change to a 25 cent currency. By 1885 20 cent coins were shipped back to the Royal Mint for melting and recoining as 25 cent pieces.

There are seven listed varieties by Charlton's catalogue. This one is the Re-engraved 5. There is no premium for the variety but it is fun to point them out when you see them. This is listed as a "Top Pop", most likely because only two are graded and both are XF-40. I suspect that many of others graded are Re-engraved 5 coins who simply don't have the variety plus designation added.
