Owner Comments:

Pictured above is a 1788 Mailed Bust Left Connecticut copper graded AU 55 by NGC. This piece, which carries a Miller 9-E designation, is cited as the third finest specimen known to Heritage. Among those in its illustrious provenance are Herbert Oechsner, Jon Hanson, and Donald G. Partrick.
This scarce and distinctive die variety features a strong strike, typically imperfect centering, and one of the most dramatic die clashes in the entire series. This heavy die clashing is evident above the portrait in the upper left obverse in the form of clearly discernable incuse date digits (i.e. 88), normally only appearing on the piece's reverse. The details in the head on the reverse are excellent, exceeding those seen on most mint state examples.
Most 1788 Connecticut coppers are traceable to the rogue Machin Mills Mint.
