The 2002 panda coins were only struck in BU quality. No varieties exist. This is the first year that the panda design did not change from the previous year; however, the edge was changed to an oblique slanted reeding in place of straight up and down. The edge slanted reeding design has remained this way since 2002.
Mintage was 500,000.
About 13% of the coins grade a perfect MS70. This shows, that the quality of the mint started in 2002 to further improve.
