The only commemorative gold coin of 2000 was the Library of Congress $10 coin, issued in honor of the 200th anniversary of the library's founding in 1800. This is a beautiful bi-metallic coin that is made from an inner core of platinum and an outer ring of gold. It is the first (and only, so far) bi-metallic U.S. coin.
The obverse of the coin features a raised torch (the torch of learning) and the cool thing is that the flame is expressed as a device in the gold outer ring of the coin. The reverse side of the coin shows the Seal of the Library of Congress (a heraldic eagle).
There were only 7,261 uncirculated and 27,445 proof coins produced by the West Point Mint. These coins are fairly easy to find in perfect MS70 condition (about 1,172 graded by NGC in MS70) and in perfect PF70 condition (about 1,140 graded in PF70, or about 40% of those graded in PF69 condition).
