Wow! The 2010 Lincoln penny displays a brand new reverse design. The Union Shield! This will be the seventh time a reverse design has been used since first introduced in 1909.

When the Lincoln penny was first designed in 1909 the reverse featured a pair of wheat stocks until 1958.

The second design placed on the reverse ran from 1959 to 2008 and featured the Lincoln Memorial.

In 2009 four different reverse designs were used to represent the different stages of President Lincoln’s life.

The seventh reverse design to be used was presented in 2010 and features the Union Shield.
