Owner Comments:
This was an odd find. The coin was part of the historic Rudman collection and sold by Heritage. Four years later I found it on eBay for less than half the price of its adjudication on Heritage. At the time of purchase (June 2019) there are no PCGS specimens and NGC has graded 2 coins, 1@25 and 1@50, therefore Top Pop.
From the sale's catalogue: "Charles III gold Escudo 1783/2 Mo-FF AU50 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM118.2, cf. Cal-661 (unlisted overdate). Pleasant for the designation with strong underlying luster and only mild high-point wear. Very scarce in this unflawed preservation. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins".
